A songwriter who knew her story
In the publisher’s transcript of The Corie Sheppard Podcast, beginning around 58:47, Destra says Bishop knew her story through their friendship and conversations. She explains that listeners sometimes assume she wrote the song because its situation feels personal.
Destra describes the result as liberating and says her singing and performance helped bring it to life. This is her retrospective interpretation of “Lucy,” not a reason to treat every detail of a song’s narrator as a biographical fact.

The account and the provider list answer different questions
The podcast explains Bishop’s role in turning a familiar life story into a song. Apple’s single-page credits list both Destra Garcia and Jason “Shaft” Bishop as songwriters. The interview does not give a line-by-line division of their contributions, and this guide does not assign one.
For listening, Apple displays the performer as Destra. The writer name Destra Garcia is retained as shown in the credit section.
