An older idea found its moment
In his February 19, 2023 Newsday interview, Shaggy said he had “Don’t Run” with Skinny Fabulous for about six years without releasing it. He described revisiting unreleased material for a Carnival-influenced project that he wanted to work beyond a single season.
That recollection does not establish a precise 2017 recording date, nor whether the released vocals and production were identical to an earlier version. It explains why a song discussed as a new release could have a much longer development history.

The single preceded the EP
The Apple single displays February 17, 2023. VP Records identifies “Don’t Run” as track five on the seven-track In the Mood, released May 12, 2023 jointly with Ranch Entertainment.
The February interview had discussed an expected March project release. The later label announcement provides the May release date; an early plan should not be substituted for that later record.
