Behind the recording

For de Karnival — Signal Band’s street-Carnival idea and guest singers

Signal Band imagined itself on the Carnival streets. Bandleader Sheldon Alfred explained how that idea became “For de Karnival” with two experienced guests.

Imagining the band on the road

In a January 23, 2013 interview, Alfred said supporters’ requests prompted the group to imagine playing on the streets for Carnival. That vision generated musical and lyrical ideas.

He explained that Clint Henderson and Wayne “Benji” Benjamin were invited for their experience of Bouyon and street Carnival. The report identifies Henderson with WCK and Benjamin with Triple Kay International; those associations explain the guest choices.
