Behind the music

The story so far.

Edwin Yearwood is a Barbadian singer and songwriter closely associated with the band Krosfyah. VP Records traces his early recognition to winning a Teen Talent Competition in 1983. His 1995 Crop Over season brought three titles: Calypso Monarch, Party Monarch and Tune of the Crop Monarch. The label’s biography follows that competition history into his recording career, including a six-album agreement with VP Records in 2005 and the project Next To You. It also records later Road March and People’s Monarch achievements in 2008 and 2009. I Am and Pump Me Up provide two listening introductions below through their selected album editions. The separate I Am guide follows Yearwood’s own account of writing the song with production by Nicholas Brancker, distinguishing that creative history from its later appearance on Jam Down. Across the artist profile and song guides, his band work, Carnival performances and individual recordings remain connected while their credits and dates stay specific.
