Behind the music

The story so far.

Lyrikal is Devon Martin, a Trinidadian recording artist whose career connects childhood choir singing with New York’s soca community. His official biography describes school talent shows and neighbourhood performances before professional recording began in 2003. It names Crazy, Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, Bob Marley and Super Cat among his early influences. The Journey, his first album, arrived in 2016. In a Caribbean Life interview that July, he discussed building a soca career from New York and wanted listeners to see the studio work behind the finished music. The accompanying DVD was part of that effort to show the process. His official biography also lists All or Nothing in 2018 and Lyrikal Content in 2019. Loner and Cloud 9 offer two entry points into his recordings; his own website links to both releases. The selections below open their individual song appearances, keeping those singles distinct from the road mix and acoustic mix associated with The Journey.
