Behind the music

The story so far.

Nessa Preppy is Vanessa John, who moved from Germany to Trinidad as a child and grew up in Arima. Her interviews trace her path from school calypso competitions through hip-hop and rapso to soca. Tingo and Issa Snack provide two listening entries from The Art of Flex. In her 2021 Loop interview she explained that the album took its name from an earlier collaboration with producer London Future, marking a working relationship that also included Tingo and Gimme Gimme. She described herself as an artist who wanted room to work across genres, and the album includes Limelight with Konshens. The catalog keeps album appearances, singles and named remixes distinct, allowing listeners to follow those collaborations without treating a later compilation date as the original release date.
