Behind the music

The story so far.

Patrice Roberts is a Trinidad and Tobago soca singer whose career grew from calypso competition into recording and live performance. Her collaboration with Machel Montano, Band of the Year, is documented in NALIS's Carnival results as the 2006 Road March winner, with Kernel Roberts credited as composer. This is a competition result for that song and year, rather than a ranking of her whole catalog. A 2018 Newsday interview looks back at her calypso beginnings and describes her development as a performer expressing her own perspective. Mind My Business and Tender are two listening entry points below. Their individual release and production histories belong with the corresponding recordings, while this profile introduces the artist and connects those songs to the wider collection.
