Behind the music

The story so far.

Sekon Sta is Trinidadian singer and songwriter Nesta Boxill. In a 2014 interview he traced his musical foundation to growing up around calypso tents with his father, Merchant. He recalled that Merchant declined to write his first song, encouraging him to develop his own writing. That background informs the calypso foundation he describes in his soca. The Best, his contribution to the Kan Kan Riddim, is one selected listening entry. My World offers a different setting: the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee announced a cultural partnership with Sekon Sta, Focus Management and the Soca Squad in June 2016, accompanied by a video featuring members of the public and athletes. The catalog preserves the vocal and instrumental entries separately, alongside later singles and shared riddim editions.
