Behind the music

The story so far.

Signal Band is a bouyon group from Dominica led by singer and songwriter Sheldon “Shelly” Alfred. In his Harvard Magazine interview, Alfred recalls forming the group with school friends and initially playing guitar before moving into vocals and songwriting. His architecture training informs an iterative approach to writing songs. The band’s releases include Déjà Val, which the interview identifies as a 2023 album. Alfred also recounts writing Ani Ba Yo Love after Hurricane Maria in 2017, responding to his bandmates’ request for a song that could uplift people. The selected listening edition features Shelly; other catalog entries explicitly name Marvay, Riddla or an alternative mix. Stronger offers another entry into the group’s recorded work. Those credited versions remain distinct in the catalog.
