Behind the music

The story so far.

Bunji Garlin brings a forceful vocal identity to Trinidad and Tobago's soca tradition. Known as the Viking of Soca, he combines rapid rhythmic delivery with an openness to dancehall and electronic production. Differentology helped introduce that combination to audiences beyond the Caribbean, while Big Bad Soca turns the music and culture of Carnival into the subject of the song itself. His recording relationship with VP Records includes albums such as Global, Differentology and Turn Up. The latter brings together collaborations with R City and Damian Marley alongside his own Carnival repertoire. His work is an entry point for listeners drawn to the meeting of lyrical attack, heavy rhythm and songs designed to become a shared experience in the crowd.
