Behind the music

The story so far.

Denise Belfon, also known as Saucy Wow, grew up in Point Cumana, Carenage. Her 2011 Newsday interview recalls singing in a school choir and Best Village activities before moving into soca with Sound Revolution. She attributes the Saucy Wow name to a childhood nickname and her sisters’ response to seeing her perform. The same interview describes the encouragement she received from Colin Lucas and Derek Seales, and KMC’s role in bringing her back to recording and performing through Panic. Panic and Saucy Baby are the selected listening entries here, spanning different points in that repertoire. Her catalog also includes collaborations and numerous separately titled versions of Work. Those listings retain their credited artists and version labels; a remix or later compilation date is not treated as the date she first recorded a song.
